High School Athlete of the Week Nominations and Voting in Michigan

The Detroit Free Press is currently accepting nominations and voting for the High School Athlete of the Week, with a focus on both boys and girls athletes. The Boys Athlete of the Week features three football players: Lorenzo Barber from Orchard Lake St. Mary's, who led his team to a district championship with 91 receiving yards and two touchdowns; Kayd Coffman from East Kentwood, a Michigan State commit who threw for 372 yards and five touchdowns in a victory over Howell; and C.J. Salder from Cass Tech, who caught three passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns, including a 68-yard punt return. Voting is open until noon on November 14. Meanwhile, the Girls Athlete of the Week includes five athletes: Gabby DiVita from Grosse Pointe South, a volleyball player with 63 kills and 27 digs; Brenna Mirovsky from Oxford, a volleyball player with 22 kills and 35 digs; Kayla Nwabueze from Bloomfield Hills, a volleyball star with 35 kills and 13 digs; Ashlyn Taylor from Gibraltar Carlson, a swimmer with personal bests in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley; and Eleanor Williams from Romeo, a volleyball player with 35 kills and 21 digs. Nominations are accepted through 10 a.m. Monday for performances from the previous week, and supporters are encouraged to vote online.
