Cold Weather Causes Closures and Snow in Western North Carolina and Green Bay
A cold front bringing the coldest air of the season has led to school and government agency closures across Western North Carolina, with numerous schools and agencies closing or delaying operations ahead of a winter weather advisory. The area is experiencing below-freezing temperatures, with winter storm warnings issued for regions above 3,500 feet, including Avery, Graham, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell, and Yancey counties, until 7 a.m. Tuesday. A freeze warning is also in effect from 8 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday for the foothills of North Carolina, the Upstate, South Carolina, and northeastern Georgia. Meanwhile, in Green Bay, a strong lake effect snow band has caused 2-7 inches of snowfall, with temperatures dropping to the upper teens and low 20s tonight. More snow is expected over Door County and the Upper Peninsula late Monday morning and evening, with temperatures gradually warming into the 40s and possibly the lower 50s by Saturday. The weather forecast includes continued cold conditions tonight, with snow ending around lunchtime, followed by gradually warming temperatures through midweek.
