Country Music Star Raul Malo Shares Cancer Update and Cancels Tour
Raul Malo, frontman of The Mavericks, has provided an update on his battle with incurable cancer, revealing that his condition has worsened. Malo, diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in June 2024, has developed leptomeningeal disease (LMD), a severe condition where cancer spreads to the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, which typically reduces life expectancy to less than a year without aggressive treatment. Malo announced that he will begin radiation therapy, followed by chemotherapy and exploring alternative treatments. Due to his health, Malo has canceled all upcoming performances for 2024 and 2025, except for two shows at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium in December, which he promises will be special. Despite the grim prognosis, Malo expressed that he is not scared and feels supported by family, friends, fans, and his band. He emphasized the importance of kindness and empathy and thanked everyone for their love and support during this challenging time. Malo has been actively updating fans about his health, sharing that he remains optimistic and committed to continuing creative projects despite his illness.
