Steelers Hiring Scott Tolzien as Offensive Coordinator and Interviewing Cowboys Assistant Lunda Wells
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the process of assembling their coaching staff for the upcoming season. According to reports, they are expected to hire Scott Tolzien as their new offensive coordinator. Tolzien, a former Wisconsin quarterback and NFL backup, has extensive coaching experience, including a recent stint as quarterbacks coach for the New Orleans Saints and previous roles with the Dallas Cowboys under head coach Mike McCarthy. He played at Wisconsin from 2006-10 and had a seven-year NFL career. Additionally, the Steelers are planning to interview Dallas Cowboys tight ends coach Lunda Wells for the offensive coordinator position. Wells has worked under McCarthy in Dallas since 2020 and has also interviewed for other OC roles, including with the Washington Commanders. The Steelers' new head coach Mike McCarthy, who previously coached Tolzien in Green Bay, will be calling plays, so the new OC will not be responsible for play-calling during games. The team is also hiring other coaching staff members, including a new running backs coach with ties to McCarthy and signing a former Saints wide receiver. The Steelers are also filling other vacancies, with some staff members leaving for NFC teams and others being hired from different NFL organizations. The coaching staff expansion indicates a significant rebuild as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
