Shailene Woodley Stars in Horror Thriller 'Ultra' About Badwater 135 Ultramarathon

Hollywood is producing a new psychological thriller titled 'Ultra,' starring Shailene Woodley as Eve, an ultramarathon runner grieving her twin sister's death. The film, directed by ultramarathoner Victoria Negri, is inspired by Negri's personal experiences, including her father's paralysis from a stroke. The story follows Eve as she competes in the notorious Badwater 135 Ultramarathon through Death Valley, battling physical and psychological challenges. During the race, she is pursued by an unknown runner in white, adding a horror element to the plot. Negri, who has completed multiple ultramarathons, wrote the film to explore themes of grief and resilience through running as a metaphor for emotional endurance. The film will be sold internationally by Mister Smith Entertainment and in the U.S. by WME Independent. Woodley's recent works include 'Motor City' and upcoming projects like Hulu’s 'Paradise' and Netflix’s 'Unabom.' The film 'Ultra' is a departure from previous Badwater 135 portrayals, which have been documentaries, and aims to depict the emotional and physical toll of ultrarunning and grief.
