Major Winter Storms Hit Northeastern US with Heavy Snow and Strong Winds

A series of winter storms are impacting the United States, particularly the Northeast, with significant snowfall and high winds. A clipper system is bringing widespread snow from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday, with expected accumulations of 2 to 4 inches in most areas and over 8 inches in mountain regions. Snowfall rates could exceed an inch per hour during peak times, causing difficult travel conditions. The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for the region, with some areas expecting up to 11 inches of snow. In addition, severe weather warnings have been issued for 10 states across the country, including Wisconsin, Michigan, California, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska, where snowfall could reach 20 to 24 inches in higher elevations. Wind gusts of 35-40 mph are also forecasted in some areas, along with lake-effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes. The NWS warns of hazardous driving conditions due to snow, gusty winds, and dense fog, emphasizing the need for caution. The storm's impact is expected to last into Wednesday night, after which a period of calmer weather is forecasted, with highs near 40°F for several days.
